Insomnia: the modern curse

“Insomnia is a glamorous term for thoughts you forgot to have in the day”

Alain de Botton

Hello, today I’m gonna talk about an issue that concerns many many people, since insomnia messes up the lives of many adults. Our stressful lives contribute to this greatly, and it can be such a drag. Again, I have to state that I’m not a expert on the matter, but I do know a few things about it, since I had thousands of sleepless nights in my life. I could actually write a thesis on insomnia. What I’m about to tell you, are advice that I got from doctors and some stuff that I picked up along the way. As I told you previously, I used to be clinically depressed. People with this condition, often have sleeping issues. That was the case for me too.

The night falls and you’re going to bed. You lay down and you try to sleep. You roll over and over, but you can’t doze off. Eventually, you manage to do so, but only for a while. The next day, the same thing happens. You sleep for a few hours and then you wake up. This gets repeated over and over until, you become a zombie, from all the sleep deprivation and the exhaustion. Your schedule is messed up and your life is derailed. If this happens to you, then you’re probably an insomniac. The reasons behind it could be many. It could be stress, the things you eat, the random times you go to bed etc. If you sleep whenever you feel like, your biological clock is messed up. It can be such a drag and it takes a lot of effort to fix this. Let me give you some tips on how to do this.

What a peaceful lass

One thing that can give you sleep is to read a book. A few hours prior to your sleeping time, take a good book and start reading. Eventually, you’ll doze off in no time. This way has been very effective on me and it has helped me greatly. Another strategy that might work, is to refrain from seeing any light, for about four hours before you sleep. Confine yourself in a dark room, go to bed and lay down. Avoid seeing any kind of light, especially the one that comes from TVs and computers. The blue radiation that is emitted from these, is said to cause insomnia. There are special receptors in the eye that “catch” this type of light. This radiation “wakes up” the brain, according to scientists. Refrain from seeing any light at all and you will manage to sleep. If this doesn’t work for you, then you could try sipping some alcohol, right before you go to bed ( One beer should suffice). However, DO NOT mix alcohol with other drugs such as antidepressants, xanax, ambien, etc. This combination can be catastrophic. You could fall into a coma or even die, if you mix the wrong substances. Consult your doctor, before combining alcohol with other drugs.

Our friend is a little wasted here

If none of the above has worked for you, then your last resort are the sleeping pills. Again, I have to warn you about this: DO NOT mix sleeping pills with alcohol or other drugs. Consult your doctor before combining drugs. Ask him if you can do this safely. Also, refrain from popping sleeping pills all the time. They are highly addictive and they can be dangerous. Do not use them for more than two weeks and do not exceed the recommended dosage. Your doctor can enlighten you on these matters thoroughly. Ask him whatever you need.

These were my tips on how to fight insomnia. You can also talk to an expert to ask for some counsel about the issue that you are dealing with. Take care lads! Bye bye!
